Once his research was completed, Gaiman sought to make the picture come alive for current audiences. “From the beginning, I felt my job was to make the dialogue sound natural, free-flowing, as much like contemporary movie dialogue as possible. I didn’t want there to be any sense that this was a dubbed film and I didn’t want it to sound like typical Japanese animation dialogue.”
